Girl at the Piano pays tribute to Prince: Legend and Icon Forever

Last week saw the loss of one of the greatest musicians of all time. The legendary ‘Prince’. As the news spread of this loss around the world, many tributes poued in and fans began to relieve the memories.

My “musical relationship” with Prince, may not have been as strong as the one I shared with MJ, but I fully respected his talent and greatly admired his ability to constantly reinvent himself. Reinvention is quite possibly, the most difficult task for any artist. A multi-instrumentalist, Prince was truly blessed with the gift of Music, on every level.

Girl at the Piano Music Review: Azhar (Bollywood Soundtrack)

April is the month where I finally went back to listening to music from other Bollywood composers (I had been enjoying Himeshji’s wonderful albums of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sanam Teri Kasam & Teraa Surroor!) and the first album I chose to listen to was the soundtrack of the forthcoming Emraan Hashmi film ‘Azhar’.

‘Azhar’ sees Emraan play the role of a cricketer who has been framed for match-fixing. Nargis Fakhri, Prachi Desai and Lara Dutta also star in the film. The soundtrack has music by a mixture of composers: Pritam, Amaal Malik, DJ Chetas and a re-worked track by yester year composers Kalyanji & Anandji. Actor Emraan Hashmi is always known to have outstanding music in his films, so lets see how this soundtrack fares!

My latest piano solo: ‘Hello’ (Adele)

My last couple of piano solos have been Bollywood songs and this time, I decided to change the genre. I learnt a very recent and popular super hit Western song ‘Hello’ which has been sung by Adele.

I have definitely become a fan of Adele after listening to ‘Hello’. The song has been set to a soulful chord based piano score, and Adele’s powerful vocals explain the conversation that is occuring in her mind to her previous partner after they have separated. It did take me a couple of listens before the emotions of the song touched me, but once that happened, I loved the song even more. ‘Hello’ is the ultimage heart-break song.

I have been able to learn the song thanks to pianist Dhruv Gandhi, who transcribed the notes so wonderfully. Due to forseeable copyright issues, I chose to learn the first verse and chorus only and share it at reverbnation. Listen to my version below and let me know if you liked it 🙂
